Video Editing Practice Blog Reflection

Hey Blog! Welcome back to my blog, today I will be telling you guys about my experience with working with Adobe Premiere Pro!

When I first started learning Adobe Premiere Pro, I didn’t know what to expect and how to use any of the tools. At first it was a little overwhelming because there was so much to know how to edit a video accurately. When I started watching the tutorials and started working my way up to learning how to use all the tools and settings, I slowly got more comfortable and understood how to use premiere pro. Towards the end, I started to feel a lot more confident and felt more free to try out all the different settings. I ended up editing a decent video.

Creating my 45-second video clip was both challenging but also satisfying. In the beginning, I struggled to put all the videos in the timeline and cutting the videos to make them shorter, but with some guidance from the tutorial videos, I figured it out. After that it was pretty simple. I cut the clips shorter and overlapped the managers' interviews audio with some B-roll to make the clips look more interesting and neater. During this process, I felt a lot of freedom to edit the clips however I wanted and tested out many tools. Overall, I loved adding clips and adjusting them to my liking.

Some successes that I had while doing this editing practice was creating the inclusion of lower thirds. I thought this part was the easiest and didn't need much assistance for it. The Essential Graphics panel made it really easy for me to figure out. All I had to do was click on the Text tab and write "Zack Fortner" and "Operational manager" whatever I needed to write down. After, I just made it smaller and placed it where I wanted it. It added a nice touch and helped the audience be aware of who exactly the manager is. A challenge that I had was overlapping the audio from the managers interview with some of the B-roll. The solution was just unclipping the sound from the clip and adding an additional clip on top.

Through this process, I learned so many things! I mainly learned how important it is to stay organized while editing videos. Important things such as labeling the files accurately and making sure that all the editing I make is clean and makes sense. I understand that small things like a smooth transition, good audio, and lower thirds all make a video so much more professional and interesting. My biggest takeaway from this project is that even the smallest details make the biggest difference in the videos. The timing, pacing and transitions all play an important part in the overall results. Next time, I want to learn how to add colors and maybe even some background music to keep the audience engaged and interested.

Overall, I think this may help my portfolio project because I want to do a short opening and doing these  practices will make me more comfortable with premiere pro. I became more comfortable editing videos with premiere pro and with more practice, I will be good at editing.
